Job Summary
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill in vacant position that has arisen at the Women’s University in Africa.
This is a senior position which requires a highly qualified individual with expertise in auditing and risk management. The successful candidate will report functionally to the Audit and Risk Committee and administratively to the Vice Chancellor and should have a deep understanding and knowledge of University administration and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading the overall direction and leadership of the internal audit function of the University;
Formulating the audit strategy in line with the University’s strategy;
Monitoring the risk environment and assessing the emerging risks;
Ensuring that audit work conforms to the standards of the professional practice of internal auditing and the Code of Ethics;
Compiling the internal audit charter of the University and ensuring that it is reviewed regularly;
Providing risk management, internal control leadership and support regarding effective operation of designed controls, risk mitigation strategies and overall compliance with state laws, corporate governance and University policies and procedures;
Compiling the annual risk based internal audit plan for the University;
Communicating audit findings and making recommendations to management and audit clients;
Preparing quarterly audit and risk reports;
Developing annual budgetary requirements for the Department;
Performance appraisal of staff in the Department;
Playing an advisory role to Management, Council and Board of Trustees; and
Performing any other job related duties as may be assigned by the Audit and Risk Committee or Vice Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant should have:
A Master’s degree in Accounting/Auditing or Strategic Management and/or Corporate Governance;
A first degree in Accounting or Auditing;
Membership of CIA/ACCA/CIS/ICA/IFA/CISA will be an added advantage;
Must be a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors or other relevant professional body;
At least five (5) years experience in a supervisory role;
At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional auditing experience;
