Job Summary
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Zimbabwe, Organization of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP) and Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), in December 2021, conducted a virtual youth webinar aimed at establishing a youth-led initiative to address at least one environmental issue. Among the issues discussed was the need to engage youth on the current national and global environmental situation, to understand perceptions of young Zimbabweans on environmental issues. From the workshop, it emerged that youth-led advocacy around Climate Justice could be carried out as a possible intervention.
This consultancy seeks to develop a concept paper on how youth can engage on advocacy around Climate Justice.
Objective
The key objective of the assignment is to develop a working document on advocacy activities on climate justice.
Duration
It is anticipated that the consultancy will be a desk review for a maximum of two days. The consultant will report directly to the Youth Initiative Lead.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Deliverables
The key deliverable is a fully developed document addressing all the relevant questions as follows:
1. Define climate justice
2. Outline possible audiences for climate justice messages
3. Outline possible advocacy activities that youth can engage in for climate justice
4. Outline possible outcomes of the initiative
5. Identify possible themes for deliberation at a 2-day youth symposium
The document including an electronic copy and all consultative information will be submitted to WWF Zimbabwe upon completion of the assignment.
Qualifications and Experience
• A Bachelor’s degree; in climate change, conservation, environmental science, or a relevant field
• At least 3-years working experience in similar assignments, specifically climate justice and youth engagement
• Experience working in conservation and development programs
• Excellent knowledge of written English is essential
