Despite significant progress in the global HIV response, new HIV infections are not declining fast enough to reach epidemic control by 2030. Scaling access to safe, effective prevention options that meet the needs of those at risk of HIV infection is essential to reaching epidemic control. However, individual and systemic barriers persist, limiting the impact of effective HIV prevention interventions.
CHAI is supporting the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) to build resilient and responsive health systems that will catalyse the scale-up and transition to sustainable implementation of combination HIV prevention interventions.
The Associate, HIV Prevention will support the following efforts within this grant to
Strengthen HIV-prevention program integration, strategically leveraging lessons from the coordination, management, and implementation of the Voluntary Male Medical Circumcision (VMMC) program; and
Document and share best practices from the implementation and transition of VMMC programs and the integration of combination HIV-prevention programs with national, regional, and global stakeholders
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding credentials, analytical grounding and strong problem-solving abilities. The Associate is required to work with government officials and partners, and as such must have excellent relationship building, communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills. She/he must be able to function independently and have a strong commitment to excellence, with a keen eye for detail. She/he should also exhibit the following important personal qualities resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, the highest level of integrity and have a strong professional ethic. The position may require 20-30% in-country travel. The Associate will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe, and will report to the Program Manager, HIV prevention
Specifically, key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following
Support the Manager to liaise between program teams, management, and other CHAI global and country teams
Coordinate and establish credibility and relationships with senior leaders in the MOHCC, in CHAI and relevant partner organizations
Analyze and draw conclusions from data, to develop and deliver influential presentations (verbal, power point, other), to create documentation and materials that communicate market data and apply the insights generated to improving HIV Prevention nationally
Support the Manager in preparation of donor and progress reports/presentations for internal and external evaluation of the project
Support the Manager in program development, implementation, planning, budgeting, forecasting, as well as monitoring and reporting
Design and develop internal and external data collection tools, tracking key grant indicators and ensuring methodologies remain consistent across grants and years
Support integration of HIV prevention best practices into MOHCC protocols, job descriptions as relevant, so that these are embedded within the relevant SOP/TOR/processes;
Support analyses of policy and regulatory landscape to make recommendations and support any policy revisions that may be required to ensure the smooth implementation of HIV prevention interventions;
Provide input into relevant technical documents to support the introduction and scale-up of innovations within HIV prevention;
Provide capacity-building support to MOHCC stakeholders to sustain, institutionalize and carry out key combination HIV prevention functions;
Perform other duties as requested
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required, such as Public Health, Social or Health Sciences
A qualification or training in Science Communication will be an added advantage
Professional experience in demanding, results-oriented environments in the public and/or private sector.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, and ability to use data to inform program development and strategy and to present results in both narrative and graphic form.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and tactfully to a variety of audiences
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required, including experience using Excel for quantitative analyses or costing.
Proven ability to operate independently, multitask, and set and achieve ambitious targets with limited guidance
