POST: DIRECTOR CLINICAL SERVICES REPORTS TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GRADE: F STATION: CHITUNGWIZA CENTRAL HOSPITAL JOB PURPOSE The post will be responsible for the provision of medical management and medical advice to the Chief Executive Officer. He/she will contribute to policy formulation for the Hospital Management Board and be a member of the Chief Executive Officer’s team. The post holder will build bridges between the management and the medical fraternity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To provide advice to the Chief Executive Officer on strategic issues to the provision of Medical Policy and strategic matters To provide advice on medical staff planning that will ensure the delivery of effective and efficient clinical services to the patient To manage the introduction of changes in work practice including review of job planning with consultants in accordance with agreed timetables, regular review of contracts for medical and other professional staff and management of private practice by all hospital staff To, as required, participate in the selection and appointment of staff To be responsible for disciplinary procedures associated with professional matters for medical staff acting in accordance with agreed and appropriate procedures To ensure professional standards are maintained in the provision of medical service in accordance with agreed contracts To initiate strategies to improve quality by promoting medical audit throughout the hospital and encourage the development of evidence based clinical practice and research To co-ordinate and promote high standards of education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in continuing medical education and development of medical staff To promote positive working relationships between medical and other staff within the hospital

Work/Educational Requirements

Must be a Consultant/Specialist in a medical field for at least 5 years with good standing. Experience of at least 3 years in an administrative/management position in medical/ clinical areas is essential. Previous attendance/participation in a management development programme will be an added advantage. Must be on the Specialist register of the Medical & Medical Practitioners Council, Zimbabwe.
