Please note that the duties and responsibilities of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor and Professor are grouped into 5 main categories which are:

(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.

(b) University Service and Community engagement – the incumbent should participate in all Department, Faculty/School and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.

(c) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University.

(d) Innovations – leading to tangible products and services

(e) Industrialisation –through commercialisation of products

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students. The applicant should be able to teach the following modules:
Introduction to Translation and Interpreting Studies
Introduction to Intercultural Communication
Language and Identity in Multicultural Spaces
Translation and Language Documentation
Concepts in Translation and Interpreting
Intercultural Engagement at Work and in Communities
Contribute to the research profile of the University through research publications
Perform general administration duties as applicable at University level

Qualifications and Experience


A BA Honours degree in African Languages and Culture/ Linguistics with at least a 2:1 pass.
A Masters in the relevant disciplinary area:
African Languages and Culture
PhD in the relevant disciplinary area will be an added advantage
A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals will be an added advantage
University teaching experience will be an added advantage
