Job Summary
The University of Zimbabwe is inviting applications for the following vacant posts:
1. DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY GEOSPATIAL SCIENCES AND EARTH OBSERVATION
1.1 CHIEF TECHNCIAN (1 POST)
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
? Preparation of budgets and management of accounts.
? Planning, supervising and coordinating students’ practicals.
? Provide timely advice and make recommendations on latest GIS and Earth Observation technologies useful in the Department
? Preparation of laboratory materials for the Department’s teaching and clinical examinations for students.
? Developing and maintaining the Department’s Health and Safety procedures.
? Maintenance of departmental furniture and equipment.
? Carrying out inventory for equipment and coordinating repairs thereof.
? Purchasing departmental equipment, reagents and consumables.
? Setting of the laboratory for income generation.
? Supervision of junior staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
Applicants must have:
? An Honours Degree in any discipline of Geographic Information Science and Remote Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Chemistry or equivalent
? Knowledge of GIS and GPS software and information systems
? Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database applications
? Knowledge of digital data and databases
? Experience in planning missions and operating unmanned aerial vehicles
? A professional qualification in computer hardware or software, surveying or any relevant skills is an added advantage
? A valid driver’s license is an added advantage
? At Least 5 years relevant post-qualification experience is an added advantage
? Good leadership and managerial qualities and be highly motivated
