Job Summary

DAPP Zimbabwe is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for the position of Social Worker at Ponesai Vanhu Children’s home

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage any allocated social work caseload relating to children within the home, including child protection and court work.
• Prepare for, and participate in, planned work relating to court and court orders effectively and within appropriate timescales.
• Undertake assessments in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures; with consideration to both the Framework for Assessment and risk in order to inform analysis and plans
• Identify children in need who may also be in need of protection and effectively safeguard them.
• Assess the needs of children and determine an appropriate level of intervention and service provision, including packages of support for families.
• Gather information for referrals to assist in the determination of whether there is a need for intervention within the continuum of need and a referral recorded with children's social care.
• Ensure the needs and wishes of children are fully addressed in the assessment and planning process and that there is evidence of children’s participation.
• Maintenance of appropriate and up-to-date records at the home.
• Liaise with the Project Leader and comply with service requirements regarding supervision, undertaking continuous professional development and attending District Coordination meetings to do with children’s welfare.
• Be aware and responsive to the differing needs of the children at the home.
• Undertake any other duties in relation to this area of work as agreed with the Project Leader.
• Contribute to the development of social work interns attached at the Home.

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in social work and any related qualification in child safe-guarding. Up –to- date registration with the Council of Social Workers. Previous experience of individual counselling and working with the Department of Social Development, Police, VFU and a Minimum of 3 years’ experience with strong networking and advocacy skills.
