JOB PURPOSE
To carry out building, civil works, repairs, and general maintenance of company buildings, structures, and infrastructure, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support refractory construction work, including installation and repair of refractory linings where applicable.
• Apply basic carpentry skills for formwork, framing, and general woodwork repairs when needed.
• Install and maintain HDPE water reticulation systems, including pipework and fittings, as required.
• Carry out bricklaying, plastering, concreting, paving, tiling, roofing, and general building works.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on company buildings, offices, workshops, stores, ablution facilities, and other infrastructure.
• Assist with construction and maintenance of foundations, walls, floors, drainage systems, and other civil structures.
• Carry out routine inspections to identify defects and maintenance requirements.
• Measure, prepare, and mix building materials such as cement, sand, aggregates, and mortar.
• Read and interpret basic building drawings, measurements, and specifications.
• Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of building tools and equipment.
• Minimise material wastage and ensure efficient use of company resources.
• Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and ensure tools and materials are properly stored.
• Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Report unsafe conditions, defects, and maintenance requirements to the supervisor.
• Work closely with other artisans and departments to support maintenance and operational requirements.
• Perform any other related duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Class 2 Builder Trade Test Certificate.
• Relevant experience in building and civil maintenance, preferably in a mining, industrial, or construction environment.
• Knowledge of bricklaying, plastering, concreting, roofing, tiling, paving, and general building maintenance.
• Knowledge of refractory construction is desired.
• Carpentry exposure is also desired.
• Knowledge of HDPE water reticulation systems is desired.
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and measurements.
• Good knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Ability to use and maintain building tools and equipment safely.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physically fit and capable of working in a demanding mining environment.
