Job Summary

BACKGROUND:
The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) is working with the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) to implement a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded Laboratory Systems Strengthening (LSS) Work Plan for the Ministry of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe. CLSI is recruiting a Laboratory Country Coordinator to oversee CLSI’s in-country activities working under the guidance of CLSI HQ.

OVERALL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and manages all aspects of CLSI work in Zimbabwe from initiation through delivery. Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Oversees the tasks associated with timely delivery of the agreed scope of work ensuring assignment tracking and timeline adherence, internal department communication on task delivery, and progress reporting. Ensures compliance with CLSI policies, processes, and procedures. Ensure that all targets, timelines, budgets, and requirements are met. Expected to be a key liaison between CLSI and all key stakeholders in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
• Leads the team in Zimbabwe to complete the assigned scope of work on time, to specifications, and with accuracy and efficiency
• Outlines the tasks involved in the project and completes or assigns them accordingly
• Participates in project budgeting, planning, implementation, and monitoring of the effectiveness of the implementation.
• In collaboration with the Senior Program Manager and Project Manager, prepares and implements a budget based on estimates and available funds.
• Responsible for risk assessments, reports identified risks to management, and provides recommendations for mitigation of risk.
• Participates in local stakeholder meetings with all BRTI, and CLSI partners and contributes towards the achievement of project goals and objectives.
• Communicates and collaborates with all CLSI stakeholders to provide training and information required to meet the goals of the program.

Performs other duties as required by management.

Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• An undergraduate degree in medical laboratory sciences. Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology, or any Medical Laboratory Sciences discipline preferred.
• Project management qualification an added advantage.
• 10 years plus experience in clinical diagnostic testing including 5 years supervisory experience and at least 2-3 years experience in a similar position under a under donor funded organisation. Experience with project management principles, software resources, and processes

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• National travel required (up to 30%)
• International travel may be occasionally required (?5%)

LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, volunteers, and general public

MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER SKILLS
• Strong computer skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite required
• Experience with Smartsheet highly desireable

REASONING ABILITY
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
• Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
